What is your name?
Shawna Seirer
What is your role at ARC Physical Therapy+?
Physical Therapist Assistant, STRIVE Coordinator
Where are you from?
I was raised in a beautiful small lake front town in North Central Kansas. My hometown of Wakefield, Kansas can be found at the North end of Milford Lake.
How long have you worked at ARCPT+?
I have worked with ARC for 7 years.
Which clinics have you worked at?
My main clinic is Wichita East, but I will occasionally help at our other two Wichita locations if needed.
What are some of your favorite memories?
Over the span of my 18-year career in physical therapy I have had the opportunity to meet some very interesting people. I enjoy remembering the small world moments and making connections with people that I may have never got to meet if it wasn’t for my career.
What do you say to someone who is starting out in PT?
Be the change you wish to see in others, but remember you can’t want it more than they do. A positive caring attitude will take you further than anything else. Also document like no one knows what you are talking about! Detailed documentation is the best way to convey our thoughts and plans not only to yourself, but to your co-workers too.
What makes ARCPT+ different from other clinics you’ve worked at?
ARCPT+ is BY FAR the BEST employer I have had in all my 18 years. It really makes a difference when you truly feel that your employer cares about you as a person, not just an employee. You don’t see too many CEOs drive three hours to work by your side when you are shorthanded.
Have you been involved in any educational, fellowship or mentoring programs at ARCPT?
I enjoyed going through the GIANT program at ARCPT+. It really helped me to better understand my personality traits, as well as my co-workers. It gave good ideas on ways to communicate and know how to better help yourself and others.
What do you enjoy about working with work comp patients?
I greatly enjoy having patients that are driven to get back to doing what they are passionate about. It’s rewarding to work with them from beginning to end. Watching them begin to do things again, that in the beginning they were fearful they would never get back to.
