What do you say to someone who is starting out in PT?
Find the passion. For yourself, and the people you work with.
What makes ARCPT+ different from other clinics you’ve worked at?
ARC picked me up right out of school and I have loved it since. Working at a place that you feel heard, respected, offers room for growth, and makes you feel surrounded by family, it is difficult to look at other options for place of work.
Have you been involved in any educational, fellowship or mentoring programs at ARCPT? If so, can you talk about which ones and what makes those special?
As a new graduate starting at ARC, I was involved in the hand therapy fellowship program. This offers a curriculum-based learning opportunity to gain experience in specializing as a hand therapist. Your first year in the program you are set up with a mentor who is a CHT within the company. The mentor will meet with you and teach a lesson once a month, you will work side-by-side with the mentor, you have requirements of presentations and surgery observations. The second year involves you teaching the mentor a lesson once a month with further presentations involving attendance of a hand-specific CEU. The third year, you primarily are studying for the CHT exam, which only has a 50% pass rate. I have recently taken over the hand fellowship program and am lucky to pass down the knowledge that I received from all our amazing CHTs while I was in the program.
What do you enjoy about working with work comp patients?
I love the ability to get creative with work-based interventions. We must grade activities to slowly build the person back up to what they need to do for work. This can sometimes be challenging, but fun.
