Celebrating PT Month: Favorite Patient Quotes

October is National Physical Therapy Month: a time to celebrate the important work our therapists do every day to help patients move better, feel stronger, and live healthier. To mark the occasion, we asked our team a few questions about their work, their inspiration, and the moments that remind them why they love what they do.

What Is One Of Your Favorite Quotes From a Patient?

Naomi Maunu, DPT, Lebanon clinic: “You know what I learned when I got blown up? Don’t sweat the small stuff.”

Conversation with a shoulder patient who loved to joke, especially Dad jokes:

Therapist: “Ok, I’m going to have you do some pot stirs. Your therapist is good at stirring the pot.”

Patient: “Yeah? Well, I’m a Maytag.”

Therapist: “A Maytag??”

Patient: “Yep, I agitate.”

Ashley Nimmo, DPT, Rogersville clinic: Patient was talking about after I have the baby my belly is going to get a lot smaller, and I said I know I hope it just goes right back, and he says “No. You will have to do your exercises”. Thrown right back in my face, haha.

Jessica Keltner, PT, Rogersville clinic: I had a patient give me a nickname in his native language (Lakota Sioux): it translated to Queen of Pain!

Vanessa Shields, PTA, Ava clinic: “It’s another day in paradise at Vanessa’s house of pain.”

Thank you to our therapists for leading with compassion, expertise, and dedication, and for helping us redefine excellence in healthcare every day.
