Being a physical therapist and fitness coach, the most common obstacles to improving fitness I hear are lack of time, poor daily routine, and poor fitness education. Knowing the problem is more than half the battle, so let’s try and apply some solutions.
Solution #1: Reclaim your schedule
If you really dive into your day (like I was forced to, to make exercise work), you will find at least 1 hour, 3 times a week of wasted time that you can turn into improving yourself physically. Do the research, find the time.
Solution #2: Make fitness a habit
Solidify your daily routine. Most, if not all of us, can create a daily and weekly routine in which we intentionally plan our activity. If we want to accomplish something from a successful meal to a successful business meeting, we need to be intentional in our planning. We need to mold a daily routine in which exercise is not a might, but a must.
Solution #3: Lean on experience
First, seek out an experienced fitness friend or family member for advice and accountability, don’t try to reinvent the wheel. Second, pick activities that vary to avoid boredom. Third, three days a week of moderate to high intensity activity will reap significant benefits for your physical and mental health. It doesn’t have to take over your life.
Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Find your hour, build your plan, and take control of your health today. If you’re struggling to start your fitness journey because aches and pains are holding you back, our team is here to guide you—whether you’re recovering, rebuilding, or just getting started.
