Cue the applause: Our South KC clinic recently celebrated their 14th anniversary and we’re reflecting on it’s history, some of our favorite memories, and a few kind words from our patients.
History of Clinic
The clinic opened in July of 2006 in Grandview, Missouri near the Truman Corners Shopping Center. At that first location, our team developed strong relationships with the South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and many area employers as we provided a much-needed and sought after specialization in workers’ compensation rehabilitation.
In 2009, we had the opportunity to move from the Truman Corners area to a larger clinic that was more visible from the Grandview Triangle. This new space gave us a greater opportunity to connect with more local employers and was easier to access for many patients.
Since opening, this clinic has flourished, serving as a strong resource in the workers’ compensation space, offering Post Offer Employment Testing and STRIVE Work Conditioning, and serving the community with physical and occupational therapy services.
Our Team’s Favorite Memories
Rachel Thurman, Physical Therapist:
My favorite memory is when we went to the Luke Bryan concert together as a clinic. We had so much fun dressing up in cowboy boots and stood outside in the snow to get into the concert. It was a blast.
We get patients who will frequently come back by to visit even if they are not injured and it makes me so happy when they come back and check in with us.
At Christmas we decorate the clinic with as many trees as we can and last year we had patients bring us trees from home to increase our count! It makes the clinic so festive and fun! We also have stockings hanging up and patients will frequently drop pieces of candy or little treats in them as a token of appreciation.
Christy McClain, Regional Director:
A few years ago, a bird somehow got into the clinic, likely through the suite next door by way of the rafters. We had a full clinic of patients and staff all watching this bird try to find it’s way back outside! One staff member, who shall not be named, took cover in a treatment room as they were just sure the bird would poop on their head! Despite our best attempts to get the bird out the front door, it remained inside, panicked for the exit. I was the Clinic Director at the time and had the brilliant idea to turn off all the clinic lights to hopefully encourage the bird to fly toward the open door. Instead, when the lights went off, the bird flew straight into the large window on the side wall, dying instantly. It was shocking for everyone inside and resulted in a failed CPR attempt followed by a small bird funeral just outside the clinic.
Hannah Page, Occupational Therapist:
Nerf gun wars! We have so much fun battling and you never know when there may be a surprise attack.
Our team isn’t the only one with fond memories of the clinic. Here are just a few of the reviews patients have left us over the years.
“If you have to do Pt, this is the place to do it. EVERYONE i have worked with there have been amazing! Very professional yet completely personable.”
– Erin B
“I have been treated at this facility since 2014, for trigger finger, tears in a calf muscle and currently for 4 tears in a rotator cuff. I was sent here for the first two injuries by my employer, due to job injuries, but this last trip was not job related so when the orthopedic surgeon said I might be able to avoid surgery with a really good physical therapist that I could choose, I called Cristi N. the ARC Administrator who I knew would pair me with the best therapist for my specific needs like she did with Rachael T. who even with very limited time, was able to get me back on my feet. I have been in the care of Matt C. for 10 weeks and the surgeon has already released me from having to under go rotator cuff surgery. This is an incredibly skilled and professional team.”
– Russ R.
“I love the team at ARC! I’ve worked with Matt, Dana and Trent. They are each very caring and attentive to treatment needs. They make me work hard but it’s paying off. Cristi is always pleasant and ensures I get all of my appointments scheduled— she even has coffee for us!”
– Lesley S.
“When I had to go to therapy after my surgery, I asked to come to ARC south because my experience with them in the past was awesome. My therapist Matt is very knowledge about hand and wrist therapy and he is very friendly and seems to care about the recovery. I just love Cristi at the front desk. She is always nice and friendly and helps the therapists tremendously. If ever I need rehab again I will choose the south location hands down.”
– Gloria H.
“Rachael was the greatest therapist. Very knowledgeable and whole body oriented. This was the best treatment that I’ve been searching for for nearly 2 years. I would recommend her to anyone. Great bedside manner and very understanding. Would definitely come back. Thank you.”
– Kathy S.
“Earlier in the year I had to rotator surgery, I did my PT here, Matt was very very knowledgeable and professional about what was necessary for me to get back to work, I was so impressed that I returned for PT from knee replacement surgery I know that it is here where I can get back on track.”
– Gregory S.
“When I first came here my range of motion was terrible even after being seen by other physical therapists. The ladies here Dana and Rachael have changed that dramatically. They were very knowledgeable about the newer styles of physical therapy. Honestly what I liked most is the positive vibes and the energy while trying to recover.”
– Anthony H.
“Great place to rehab, especially with Rachel Thurmond, she is very kind, gentle and funny, the whole staff is wonderful.”
– Brian T.
