What is your name?
Rachael Thurman
What is your role at ARCPT+?
Physical Therapist at South Kansas City
What year did you begin working at ARCPT+?
February 2016
Where are you from?
St. Louis, but I have lived in KC since 2010.
Where did you to school?
I received both my bachelors in Sports Science and my doctorate of PT from Rockhurst University.
Who or what inspired you to get into the PT space?
I was a high level competitive gymnast from age 3 through high school. That being said, my sophomore year of high school I underwent my first knee surgery and went through PT myself. I always wanted to go into the medical field, but wasn’t sure if I wanted to be an MD, nurse, PA, PT, etc. After going through PT personally, I appreciated the relationship I built with my therapist and the amount of time I got to spend working with him. I knew then, that I wanted to go into PT and work alongside patients to restore their function and help them get back to their goals/dreams.
What do you like most about your work at ARCPT+?
Taking this job was a new experience for me because I hadn’t worked in the work comp field before. I was pleasantly surprised how much I love work comp! There’s a completely different dynamic and I’ve enjoyed learning about the different jobs that people perform and helping them return to these jobs. I also enjoy the team aspect of working with case managers and adjusters. Plus, within ARC itself, I have met some of the most amazing people. I love how well everyone works together and I’ve learned so much from my incredibly talented colleagues. I’m constantly amazed by the hard work and dedication displayed daily. Without being asked, therapists will often go out of their ways, above and beyond, for their patients. It’s amazing to see the level of commitment and passion to helping make people better.
Are you involved in any outside organization?
Yes, I teach Sunday school at our church.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with my kids and husband, whether we are playing around the house or taking the kids to the zoo, pool, or sporting activities. I also enjoy running, working out, crafting, and shopping!
