Staff Spotlight: Sam Smith

What is your name?

Sam Smith

What is your role at ARC Physical Therapy+?

Physical Therapist

What year did you begin working at ARC Physical Therapy+?

Summer of 2019

Sam Smith TigerWhere are you from?

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Wichita, Kansas.

Where did you go to school?

I attended Wichita Public Schools then upon graduation went to Wichita State University for my Bachelor’s in Marketing, Masters in Exercise Science, and Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

Who or what inspired you to get into the physical therapy space?

I have always been interested in sports and human performance from playing competitive sports growing up and as a collegiate athlete. At the time of considering a switch to physical therapy I was working as a personal trainer at a local gym and realized I enjoyed working with clients who just wanted to move better or be able to go up and down stairs without pain. They were not concerned with how much body fat they had or what their max lift was, but how they could perform daily activities to the best of their abilities and I felt instant gratification with being able to help someone live a better and healthier life.

What do you like most about your work at ARC Physical Therapy+?

I love the clinic atmosphere here, our employees in the Wichita area are very helpful/knowledgeable in the rehab process, and I have the resources in this clinic to treat my patients to the best of my ability. I have learned so much working for ARC Physical Therapy+ and look forward to more learning opportunities through my career here.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about the body or physical therapy?

Your body is a machine that adapts to how you use it. Stay active the best you can and remember that any motion is better than no motion. You are never too old to squat 🙂

Sam Smith DaughterWhat do you like to do in your free time?

I have two beautiful daughters (a 2-year-old and a 6-month-old) which are a joy and I enjoy spending time with them outside of work. As for hobbies I love watching sports, movies, getting outside, and playing some guitar.

How do you like to celebrate a win or a good day?

Lots of high fives!

What is your favorite quote or saying?

The best things in life are the ones you work hard to achieve.

Favorite Sports Team?

College basketball = Wichita State

College football = Oklahoma State

NFL = Dallas Cowboys

Sweet or salty?

Both of course 🙂

Coffee or tea?

Coffee, it is my life source.

Beach or mountains?

Mountains all the way! Nothing better than snowboarding in the winter and hiking in the summer.
