Staff Spotlight: Kimberly Sumner

What is your name?

Kimberly Sumner

What is your role at ARC Physical Therapy+?

Kimberly and OP Clinic Team at the HolidaysPhysical Therapist and Clinic Director at Overland Park Clinic

What year did you begin working at ARC Physical Therapy+?

Not only did I join the ARCPT+ team in 2012 but my first day of work was on 12-12-12. Twelve must be my lucky number!

Where are you from?

Locally grown! I was born in St. Joseph, MO but moved here as a young child. I grew up in Mission, KS.

Where did you go to school?

I completed my undergraduate degree in Lawrence at the University of Kansas and then went on to physical therapy school in Kansas City, KS at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Who or what inspired you to get into the physical therapy space?

I struggled with a couple of injuries while running distance track and cross country in high school. Working with the trainers at my school got me interested in some type of rehab. After shadowing and exploring different areas of health care, I landed on physical therapy as I wanted to work with a variety of people and not just athletes.

What doyou like most about your work at ARC Physical Therapy+?

I enjoy having variety in what I do every day as the Clinic Director. I get to stay involved in patient care but also get to get out of the clinic to meet with physicians, adjusters, case managers and employers to collaborate in providing the best care we can to every patient. It’s rewarding to be a part of a team focused on returning each individual back to FULL participation in their particular job, sport or other daily activities.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about the body or physical therapy?

There are rarely quick fixes. You really will get out of your body what you put into it. That relates to not only nutrition but exercise as well.

What do you like to do in your free tKimberly and Familyime?

I have three beautiful daughters that keep me very busy. I also enjoy cheering on all of our local sports teams, being outdoors, and spending time with my friends and family.

How do you like to celebrate a win or a good day?

Nice glass of red wine on the patio when the weather is nice!

What is your favorite quote or saying?

“It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving.”- Mother Teresa

Favorite Sports Team?

KU Jayhawks and all teams Kansas City

Sweet or salty?

Both! I’m not good at choosing favorites. I prefer variety.

Coffee or tea?

One favorite I can actually choose- coffee!

Beach or mountains?

If I have to choose most likely the beach to relax.

Go out or stay in?

I enjoy getting out to experience new restaurants and explore new parts of town.
