  • Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy
  • Balance impairments
  • Strength and mobility deficits
  • Lymphedema of the limbs, trunk, head and neck
  • Fibrotic tissue changes as a result of surgery and radiation
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Pain resulting from cancer, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and targeted therapies
Mary Calys Director Rehab Center

Mary Calys, DPT, CLT joins ARC Physical Therapy+ as the leader of this specialty service and brings with her a team that has a combined 34 years’ experience working with patients who are newly diagnosed, in active treatment, or suffering from lingering survivorship issues that impact their function and quality of life.

Mary has spent the last 17 years treating patients and the last 13 years founding and directing the North Kansas City Hospital Cancer Rehab and Wellness Center which provided physical therapy services to patients throughout the cancer continuum. Mary served for 13 years on the American Physical Therapy Association Oncology Board of Directors as the Public Relations Chair and currently serves on the Kansas City Cancer Action Board of Directors.

“Nearly 20 years ago I was asked to treat a patient with cancer, I was shocked at his fatigue level and didn’t know where to start. After years of research and piloting different programs, I created a community-based outpatient cancer rehab program that meets people where they are,” Mary explained. “Having cancer is emotionally, physically and psychologically challenging. We understand that and tailor our treatment to each individual’s needs, helping them get back to what’s important to them.”

Brian Stewart Partner CMO

“We are so excited to be able to offer this unique, specialty service to the Kansas City region. I went to physical therapy school with Mary and can speak firsthand about her drive to provide the best care to her patients,” Brian Stewart, ARC Physical Therapy+ Partner/CMO said. “Mary and her team have been a resource for thousands of people in our community. Their care, compassion and expertise are all traits that are woven into the fiber of ARC Physical Therapy+ and we are thrilled to have them join our team.”

The Cancer Rehab Center of Excellence will open within three existing clinic locations: Overland Park, Kansas; Kansas City, Missouri; and Liberty, Missouri.

The clinics are currently accepting new patients and making appointments at 855-410-2266.
