Check Out Our New Physical Therapy Clinic in Shawnee

Did you know that our ARC Physical Therapy+ clinic in Shawnee recently moved to a new location? Check out the video below that explains how we decided to expand as a result of outgrowing our previous location.The new clinic, located at 12156 Shawnee Mission Parkway, is just down the road from the previous location and is a much bigger facility.

The new facility allows us to offer a variety of work conditioning. Our patients will have more room to spread out for exercises and physical therapy.

At this new location, we will be able to perform Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE’s). According to the American Occupational Therapy Association, “A functional capacity evaluation (FCE) evaluates an individual’s capacity to perform work activities related to his or her participation in employment. The FCE process compares the individual’s health status, and body functions and structures to the demands of the job and the work environment. In essence, an FCE’s primary purpose is to evaluate a person’s ability to participate in work, although other instrumental activities of daily living that support work performance may also be evaluated.”

We also offer dry needling services therapy at the Shawnee location. It’s a cash-based service and costs $75 for the initial evaluation and 15 minutes of dry needling. Physical therapist Diana Dickey can usually treat 2 to 3 muscle groups in that time period. This technique helps relax muscles and decrease pain with the use of a very thin, acupuncture-type needle.

Unlike acupuncture that treats on meridian lines, dry needling identifies the specific tissue that’s affected and creates a local twitch response, changing the chemical balance and releasing some of the chemical irritants and toxins in the muscle. This therapy is a nice adjunct to traditional physical therapy, like stretching and strengthening. It can be very beneficial for patients who are experiencing cervical pain, headaches, post-surgery recovery, or even low back pain.
