BRIAN STEWART
Partner and Chief Marketing Officer, ARC Physical Therapy+
By: Chelan David, Kansas City Business Journal
ARC Physical Therapy+ provides traditional physical and occupational therapy with a focus on workers’ compensation claims and provides resources, training and programs to employers looking to bulk up their wellness programs to prevent injury.
Responsibilities: Stewart helps oversee 11 clinics and nearly 100 employees in Kansas and Missouri.
Education: Bachelor’s in education, master’s in physical therapy and doctorate in physical therapy from University of Kansas
Starting out: He started his career in an outpatient clinic at Menorah Medical Center. In February 2003, he et Matt Condon, his current business partner and close friend, at the Sheraton Hotel in Overland Park for a job interview.
“He had this idea to create a startup physical therapy company focusing on the concepts of treating everyone like an athlete, tracking data and providing the best customer service possible. I didn’t know Matt, had never heard of him, but that day, I knew he was special and that I wanted to work with him. Eleven years, 11 clinics, 100 employees later… it’s been a pretty amazing ride.”
Biggest challenge: The biggest obstacles they faced was simply getting the opportunity to prove themselves.
“We were able to convince people to give us a shot, and when they did, we had to prove that we were better and created more value for them. We have always treated every customer like they’re our most important customer. That philosophy has carried us.”
Biggest accomplishment: Stewart said his biggest accomplishment is growing ARC Physical Therapy+ and affecting hundreds of thousands of people in a positive way. We’ve lived our mission statement: ‘redefining excellence in healthcare.’ That’s pretty awesome.”
Giving back: Stewart is active in Centurions, a leadership program of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. He said it has opened his eyes to the many organizations and people with needs. He also serves as a Big Brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Helping people is in his DNA.
“I care about people. I’m a people person who loves to give and share.”
